F-18 Hornet

DESCRIPTION: The F/A-18 is a single-seat carrier-based aircraft, flown by both the Marine Corps and the Navy. The F-18 is the Navy's primary attack jet ("F/A" stands for fighter and attack). It can carry up to a 17,000-pound bombload.
ANYTHING NEW? It now carries 2,000-pound "penetrating" smart bombs (GBU 24) and new standoff JSOW weapons. (See bomb descriptions below.) New stealth versions of the plane, the F/A-18 Super Hornet, have not yet made it to operational status.
