SEOUL, Korea -- Rescue workers examine the wreckage of the CH-47 Chinook helicopter after it smashed into a bridge killing three soldiers.
A police spokesperson said the rotors of the helicopter got caught
in support wires while it hovered during decoration work on
the Olympic Bridge, built to commemorate the 1988 Olympic Games.
Police have recovered one body from the Han River and have said there is little chance of survival for the other two crew members. No vehicles were involved with the incident, which occurred one hour before the afternoon rush hour, as police had cleared the area for the work.
The heavy army transport helicopter was installing a torch-shaped sculpture on the bridge's central tower when its rotors hit the sculpture and the tower.
