 • A possible base for U.S. aircraft, although Qatar may be sensitive to the use of its bases for U.S.-led military strikes

 • Billion-dollar facility located 20 miles south of Qatar's capital, Doha, that boasts the longest runway in the Gulf: 15,000 feet

 • The base is much larger than what's needed by the Qatari air force -- which has about a dozen planes -- and some suggest it was built to lure international forces in times of crisis
