Alexandra Stevenson burst onto the world tennis scene in 1999 when she became the first player to come out of the qualifying rounds to reach the Wimbledon women's semifinals, where she lost to eventual champion Lindsay Davenport. At around the same time, former basketball great Julius Erving revealed he is the 6-foot-1-inch athlete's father. In 2001, she defied the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's economic boycott of South Carolina, which flies the Confederate flag on the Capitol grounds, by playing in the Family Circle Cup.

CAREER
The highlight of Stevenson's career was her 1999 advance to the Wimbledon semifinals. She also was a mixed-doubles semifinalist in the 1999 U.S. Open, and has been a singles quarterfinalist in seven tournaments since 1998. She has won more than $600,000 in career prize money.

AWARDS
Tennis magazine's 1999 Rolex Rookie of the Year; singles bronze medal, 1999 Pan American Games.

PERSONAL
Stevenson is the daughter of free-lance writer Samantha Stevenson and former basketball great Julius "Dr. J" Erving.
