| | Arrests end lethal sniper spree
More than three weeks of terror culminated October 24 with the early morning arrest of two men at a Maryland rest stop, ending a wave of attacks that had turned suburban gas stations and strip malls into hunting grounds. Authorities say John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo (pictured, right to left) shot and killed individuals in Montgomery, Alabama, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, then headed northeast and, beginning October 2, randomly gunned down 10 victims and wounded four others in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
