China launches man into space
Astronaut Yang Liwei's 21-hour flight around the Earth has
propelled China into an exclusive club of space powers, making it only
the third country in history to have launched a man into space.
The flight has also transformed the 38-year-old former air
force pilot into an instant hero for millions of Chinese.
For China's leaders, the successful mission has become a
focus for boosting national prestige and a showcase for the country's
