The Royal Air Force has sent 100 fixed-wing aircraft and 27 support helicopters as part of its military contributions to the buildup of forces in the Persian Gulf. There are already RAF units in the region supporting the joint U.S.-British enforcement of the U.N.-mandated no-fly zones in Iraq, known as Operation Northern Watch and Operation Southern Watch.
