Units: National Guard units from all 50 states have been called up in support of U.S. military operations in Iraq.
Duties: According to "Operation Iraqi Freedom -- By the Numbers, a document released April 30, 2003, by the Combined Forces Air Component Command, 8,866 Army National Guard soldiers participated in the war in Iraq. The soldiers were from perform a variety of combat and support roles, including military police duties, transportation and logistics and engineering units. As of December 22, 2004, there were 160,013 Army National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers on active duty around the world.
