Camp Commando
Location: 20 miles north of Kuwait City
Units: This base is the headquarters for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), including elements of the 1st Marine Division, 1st Force Service Support Group and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The rest of the 45,000-strong 1st MEF are spread around Kuwait at various desert camps.
Role: The camp was constructed in October and November 2002 as a headquarters for Marine planners, senior commanders and logistical staff.
