Britain hosts G8 Summit 2005

The Group of Eight Summit is an annual meeting between the leaders of eight major industrial nations: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and United States.

Each year, a different country assumes the presidency of the group, along with the duty of hosting and planning the summit. The 2005 summit was hosted by Britain at Gleneagles, Scotland.

The G8 Summit began as an economic forum, but these days it also deals with political, social and security issues. The European Union always joins G8 members, while other leaders invited to attend change from year to year.
