One year later, a struggle to recover
One year after the deadly South Asia earthquake, the reconstruction and aid effort is struggling. As a second, post-quake winter approaches, many remain homeless in the mountainous area of northern Pakistan, India and the disputed region of Kashmir.
On October 8, 2005, tragedy struck across the mountains and valleys of Kashmir. A 7.6 magnitude quake centered near Balakot, Pakistan, leveled villages and killed more than 70,000 people.
