Hemingway was born in Oak Park on July 21, 1899, and lived there until he moved to Kansas City in 1917. The event includes literary conferences, tours of the birth home, a fiesta, a play written by Carol Hemingway, art exhibitions at The Hemingway Museum and a short film. Hemingway Days Festival, Key West, Florida July 16-25: The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum hosts the Hemingway Days Festival in Key West, where Hemingway worked and lived from 1928 to 1940. Events include a look-alike contest, writing workshops, a sailing regatta, a marlin-fishing tournament and a five-kilometer run. Michigan in Hemingway: A Sense of Place, Petoskey, Michigan July 18-25: The Michigan Hemingway Society celebrates the author and his connection to the Petoskey area where he learned to hunt and fish during family vacations. Hemingway Centennial Celebration, Sun Valley, Ketchum, Idaho July 21-31: The Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber of Commerce offers a celebration including presentations on Hemingway and modernism, Hemingway's final years, Hemingway in Paris and more. Other activities include a reception at the Hemingway House in Ketchum, historical tours of Hemingway haunts and the annual Sun Valley Wine Auction. June 18-November 7: The National Portrait Gallery hosts an exhibition on Hemingway's life with more than 100 photographs, letters, paintings, first editions, manuscripts and other memorabilia. San Fermin Festival, Pamplona Spain July 6-14: The San Fermin Festival in Pamplona, Spain, this year commemorates Hemingway's birth centennial. Hemingway first visited Pamplona in the 1920s, and from those experiences wrote "The Sun Also Rises." Hemingway and War Centennial Conference, USAFA Colorado Springs, Colorado October 7-9: The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, hosts a conference that examines Hemingway's experience in the major wars of this century. Hemingway's wartime experiences include participating in World War I and the Spanish Civil War, and serving as a correspondent during World War II.
