The launch of the Dreamcast game console brought much happiness to some gamers across the U.S. and much frustration to others. Reports surfacing on newsgroup discussions at Deja.com claim that some of the discs will not load. Those titles include Sega's flagship game "Sonic the Hedgehog" as well as "Ready 2 Rumble", "Blue Stinger", "Hydro Thunder" and the Dreamcast web browser disc.

Sega of America admitted that a small quantity of software for the Sega Dreamcast game console is having difficulty running on the game system. Initial reports indicate that there was a manufacturing issue with one small batch of software from one of the software duplication facilities.

Jennifer Walker with Access Communications, Sega's public relations firm, said that "the affected software equates to .9 percent of first and third party games and .9 percent of web browser discs." She went on to say that the defective batch of software had been identified and that Sega is in the process of replacing it.

Multimedia Analyst Sujata Ramnarayan with Data Quest offered some insight on the Dreamcast software problem. "Given that this was supposed to be a big break for Sega, this is obviously not a good thing. Whatever advantage Sega may have had is definitely going to be impacted by this problem."

Consumers who have purchased games that will not work are advised to return the games to the retailer for a replacement.

Those having problems with the web browser disc should send an e-mail to support@sega.com or call 1-877-383-3291.
