ASTEROID AND MOON During its long trip to Jupiter, NASA's Galileo spacecraft flew near two asteroids, including this 36-mile-long specimen, Ida, which has a tiny moon, Dactyl, the rocky speck to the right. Dactyl is the first natural satellite found around an asteroid. Greek myth inspired the names. Since their discovery in 1994, more such space rock pairs have been spotted.
