NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: After having to watch football all day yesterday, nice that we had an awards program last night. It's much more of a girl thing, you know, to see what the gals are wearing.
LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: So you had cable?
ALLEN: Yes, we did? My lot had it.
WATERS: I'm going to have to watch Sherri Sylvester tell me about the Golden Globes, as she will now do.
HARRISON FORD, ACTOR: And the winner is, "American Beauty."
SHERRI SYLVESTER, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): "American Beauty" was golden with a trio of trophies, including Best Drama, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
(on camera): The Golden Globes have long been called a barometer for the Academy Awards. Actually, five of the last 10 Best Picture winners have gone on to Oscar glory.
(voice-over): "Toy Story 2" was named Best Comedy. For the most part, acting awards celebrated real-life stories. Denzel Washington brought Rubin "Hurricane" Carter to the stage as he accepted a Best Actor prize for "The Hurricane."
DENZEL WASHINGTON, ACTOR: This man right here is love.
When they said my name, I said, there's no way I can go up there without sharing it with Rubin.
SYLVESTER: Jim Carrey won Best Actor in a Comedy for his portrayal of the late Andy Kaufman in "Man on the Moon."
JIM CARREY, ACTOR: I wanted this film to be like Andy came back to do his life.
SYLVESTER: Hilary Swank's gender-bending role in "Boys Don't Cry," also based on a true story, brought her Best Actress honors.
HILARY SWANK, ACTRESS: If I can just keep searching for the things that move my heart and my soul as much as this story did, you can't go wrong.
SYLVESTER: On the comedy side, Janet McTeer took the Best Actress trophy for "Tumbleweeds." Supporting honors went to Angelina Jolie for "Girl, Interrupted" and past winner Tom Cruise for his work in "Magnolia."
TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: You know, my life isn't like this every day. I don't always step out of a car and there's 1,000 people there.
SYLVESTER: "The Sopranos" put out a hit on its television competitors, taking awards for Best Drama, Best Actor, James Gandolfini, and Best Actress, Edie Falco. "Sex and the City" was named Best Comedy, star Sarah Jessica Parker Best Actress. Multiple winner Michael J. Fox took Best Actor honors just days after announcing he will leave "Spin City" to battle Parkinson's disease.
MICHAEL J. FOX, ACTOR: I haven't met that many people who aren't connected with somebody with this disease.
BARBRA STREISAND, ACTRESS/SINGER: I don't dwell on the past. I'm very happy in the present.
SYLVESTER: Barbra Streisand's past includes more Golden Globes than any other performer in history. Her present includes the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement.
Sherri Sylvester, CNN, Beverly Hills, California.
ALLEN: See, all the big stars are there. They looked good.
WATERS: Lots of glitter there.
