NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: Deep snow is making travel difficult in the parts of the deep South. Some parts of Arkansas received up to a foot of snow. State highway authorities shut down Interstate 30 in Texarkana because of icy conditions.
ANDRIA HALL, CNN ANCHOR: The storm has lost some of its punch, but that didn't stop it from leaving a big mess as it tracked across Mississippi.
Reporter Terry Abernethy from CNN affiliate WCBI has details from Tupelo.
TERRY ABERNETHY, WCBI REPORTER: This is Terry Abernethy reporting in Tupelo, Mississippi where, earlier today, we had 3 1/2 to 4 inches of snow. Now, for many parts of the country, that's no big deal. However, here in the mid-South where we only get one or two dustings per winter, this type snow can and has crippled a city. That's simply because many of our drivers don't know how to drive on the snow, ice and sludge. Because of that, many stores, factories and virtually all of our schools have closed for the day.
Public works crews have done a great job in clearing the streets of ice, however we're still advising motorists not to get out and try to drive, especially if they're inexperienced.
Right now, we're experiencing sleet in our area. However, large amounts of additional accumulations are not expected.
This is Terry Abernethy in Tupelo, Mississippi, CNN, reporting.
ALLEN: Thank you, Terry.
