LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Want to take you live to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. You're seeing their Punxsutawney Phil. The legendary groundhog has just been pulled out of his burrow. He is about to make his prediction as to whether or not we've got -- what is it -- six more weeks of winter, or...
KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: That's right.
HARRIS: ... six more weeks until spring.
The president of the society there in charge of handling him, Bill Cooper (ph), has knocked on the door -- that's him you see there with the stick in his right hand, and Punxsutawney's handler, Bill Deeley, is, as you can see there, handling Phil.
PHILLIPS: I don't think I've ever seen this live before.
HARRIS: Let's see if we can listened to the proclamation.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye. This morning, February 2nd of the year 2000, Punxsutawney Phil, king of the groundhogs, seer of seers, prognosticator of prognosticators, weather profit without peers, has emerged gleefully from his burrow. At 7:28, he greeted his handler, Bill Deeley, groundhog president Bill Cooper and thousands of faithful followers.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: After a quizzical search with his weather eye, he consulted with President Bill and directed him to select the appropriate scroll which proclaims: "On this second millennium Groundhog Day, I have no worry about Y2K. There is no glitch in the prediction, I say. The abounds in the sky (ph) so I cast a shadow nearby. When my shadow I see, six more weeks of winter there will be."
HARRIS: Well, all the mystery has been removed now.
PHILLIPS: There you go. Six more weeks of winter.
HARRIS: We may not have to wait for Jacqui Jeras in a few minutes. Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow. We've got it -- got the word straight from his handler's mouth -- actually, from, this morning, from his scribe's mouth, Bill Anderson (ph). Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow, therefore there will be six more weeks of winter.
PHILLIPS: And don't worry about Y2K: That was the other best (ph) prediction.
HARRIS: And he's not worried about Y2K.
Now, just for the record, from what I understand, Punxsutawney Phil has been correct only 28 percent of the time, so there you go.
PHILLIPS: We need to do a Gallup Poll on that one.
HARRIS: Yes. That or get him one of those super computers. Maybe he'll be 40 percent right sometimes.
