Barclay's Bank: No Injuries, Only Broken Windows From Explosion Outside NYC Building

Aired February 11, 2000 - 7:05 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Now we go back to New York to get the latest on the story that we led with, this morning, the breaking story of the explosion on Wall Street. We're joined now by Tim Johnson, who is a spokesman for Barclay's Bank in New York, where this explosion actually occurred.

Tim, what can you tell us right now?

TIM JOHNSON, BARCLAY'S BANK: Well, at this point, we don't know much. We're cooperating with authorities. We do know that some sort of device went off outside the bank, and that there were no people hurt as of yet, and that just some damage has been done to the ground- level windows. I should note that although Barclay's owns the building, we don't have any people there or offices; we rent it out to other financial institutions.

HARRIS: Understood.

Have the authorities said anything to you about how big a device they think may have actually detonated there judging by the damage?

JOHNSON: They haven't. The police are still investigating at this time.

HARRIS: All right. And you say you have no employees in that building.

JOHNSON: Correct.

HARRIS: Do you know whether or not any people are going to be kept from entering that building, this morning, at all?

JOHNSON: I do not. Again, that's a police question. We just don't have that information now.

HARRIS: Understood. Tim Johnson, Barclay's Bank, we thank you very much.
