(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, FEBRUARY 27, 1991) GEORGE BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Kuwait is liberated, The Iraqi army is defeated. Our military objectives are met. (END VIDEO CLIP) JOHN TOWRISS, DEPUTY BUREAU CHIEF, WASHINGTON: I remember people slowing coming out and gathering around us, and looking at us and asking us. And we told them that the city had been liberated, that the Iraqis had left. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I want to make thanks to Mr. Bush, and I want to say to Mr. Bush we all thank you very much because you helped the people in Kuwait. (END VIDEO CLIP) (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, FEBRUARY 27, 1991) BUSH: Kuwait is once more in the hands of the Kuwaitis, in control of their own destiny. (END VIDEO CLIP) TOWRISS: And as I watched people began to, you know, to take in this monumental news to them, we began to hear down the road a lot of mechanized sounds. And we looked down the road, and sure enough here came a big column of soldiers and tanks, troops that were sort of coming into town almost as sort of the liberating soldiers. They were sitting on top of the tanks, and soldiers kind of had to sort of snake its way around CNN's satellite dish to get into Kuwait City. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, FEBRUARY 27, 1991) BUSH: We share in their joy, a joy tempered only by our compassion for their ordeal. Tonight the Kuwaiti flag once again flies over the capital of a free and sovereign nation and the American flag flies above our embassy.
