FRANK SESNO, CNN ANCHOR: We do want to take you back to that news conference at the elementary school -- Buell Elementary School, the news conference getting under way in Michigan. So let's go out there and join that news conference in progress.
(JOINED IN PROGRESS)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The person doing the shooting was a first grade child who apparently had brought the gun to school. The information is still sketchy. We still have officers at the scene conducting the investigation at this point to make some further determinations.
QUESTION: Can you say how many shots were fired, chief?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We believe at this time there was just the one shot fired.
QUESTION: With a handgun?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That has not been determined. The classroom where it has occurred was locked down and I hadn't received that information prior to coming to the press conference.
QUESTION: Do you know anything about the student himself? Do you know anything about his past or if he's had any problems in school? Do you know anything about the student?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, I don't. Just that he's a student in attendance at that school.
QUESTION: What about the other students in that classroom?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They were detained at the scene by officers and they were being spoken to, last I know when I left the school, by grief counselors and social counselors, as well as -- there are detectives with them also, in an attempt to get further statements because they were witnesses to the incident.
QUESTION: How many students in the classroom?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We believe there's approximately 22 children in the classroom at the time the shooting occurred. QUESTION: What about the teacher?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't have that information at this time.
QUESTION: You don't know if she was in the classroom or outside the classroom?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She was in the classroom.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I believe that...
UNIDENTIFIED ANCHOR: All right, you've been watching a live press conference, police talking about that shooting...
SESNO: We were picking up our affiliate there in -- outside of Flint, Michigan as we hear more about the shooting today at Buell Elementary School. What we heard there, apparently one shot was fired, grief counselors, social workers and detective are now talking to some of those children who were present -- about 22 children, we were told in that brief news conference who were present during that situation. Still no significant details as to what happened, why or the condition of the child who was shot.
We'll bring you more as we get it.
