DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: And we take you live now, this is the steps of the Justice Depart. There you see Elian Gonzalez and his 6- month-old son and wife -- Actually, I'm sorry, that is Juan Miguel Gonzalez, the father of Elian Gonzalez, his attorney Gregory Craig. They've been meeting all morning long with Attorney General Janet Reno.
And as we understand it, Juan Miguel Gonzalez is going to make some comments. We will listen in with the help of a translator.
To those or our viewers who don't understand Spanish, we are working on getting that English translator, and just bear with us, and we will keep listening to Juan Miguel Gonzalez.
JUAN MIGUEL GONZALEZ, FATHER OF ELIAN GONZALEZ: (SPEAKING IN SPANISH)
GREGORY CRAIG, ATTY. FOR JUAN MIGUEL GONZALEZ: Just a moment, please. Just a moment, please.
We had a very good meeting with the attorney general and the commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization Services. In the course of this meeting, Juan Miguel conveyed to Miss Reno and Miss Meissner the depth of his pain and his feelings and his love for his child and he made the request for their assistance to have him returned to them instantly or as soon as possible.
They gave assurances to him that satisfied him on this point. It was a moment and a meeting that had great emotion. And I think was a very successful meeting. Thank you very much.
KAGAN: Not many details offered there, but we heard comments in Spanish from Juan Miguel Gonzalez, and then from his attorney, Greg Craig. Greg Craig saying that they had a good meeting this morning with Attorney General Janet Reno, also the commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Juan Miguel Gonzalez, according to Greg Craig, expressing his pain and his sorrow of having been separated from his son for the last four months and asking for help for a quick reunion.
Without giving too many details or really any details, Greg Craig said that the answers they were given were satisfactory, given the idea that very soon Elian Gonzalez would be reunited with his father.
