Elian Gonzalez and Family Moved to Carmichael Farm on Maryland's Eastern ShoreAired April 25, 2000 - 2:32 p.m. ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to go out to Andrews Air Force Base where CNN's Patty Davis is keeping watch today.
Patty, what's new?
PATTY DAVIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Lou, sources confirm here to CNN that Elian Gonzalez, his father, his father's second wife and their baby have been moved to a private home that is right on the border of the Wye River Plantation called Carmichael Farm. That is where they will be staying. That is also where King Hussein stayed during the Middle East peace talks in October of 1998.
Elian and his family where moved from here at Andrews Air Force Base, U.S. Marshals say, at about 12:45 Eastern time this afternoon. They headed there to Carmichael Farm, a private home on the border of the Wye River Plantation, a very secluded spot on Maryland's Eastern Shore. That, sources tell CNN, is where Elian, his father, his father's second wife and their baby will now be staying until these court appeals can be heard -- Lou.
WATERS: Part of this transition from Andrews out to Carmichael Farm includes an application for visas for some folks from Cuba to travel to the United States to be with Elian and his father. What can you tell us about that?
DAVIS: That's right. The State Department says that Elian's father requested expedited visas for four of Elian's playmates as well as one parent each for those.
Now, U.S. officials in Havana have not received those visa applications, but James Rubin, State Department spokesman, says that once those applications are received, he expects those visas to be process in a timely manner, perhaps as soon as 24 hours. That requested by Elian Gonzalez's father here at Andrews Air Force Base. Now we know that they have moved to another location, Carmichael Farm, a private home on Maryland's Eastern Shore -- Lou.
WATERS: All right, Patty Davis out at Andrews Air Force Base.
