KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to go to breaking news right now, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Green Bay Packer Mark Chmura is making a statement with regard to having sex with a 17-year-old girl without her consent. He has been accused of that.
Let's listen in.
(JOINED IN PROGRESS)
MARK CHMURA, GREEN BAY PACKERS: ... that every American kid dreams of. I will never forget the many great things you have done for me and my family, and I wish you and your families well.
To the greatest fans in all of sports, it has been a true honor to wear the green and gold on your behalf. Thank you for the incredible memories, memories my family and I will cherish for the rest of our lives.
I realize that many of you have serious questions regarding the allegations against me, and I know most of you are disappointed with me at this time. I apologize for this mess that has been brought upon you. However, I plead with you, please withhold judgment and allow me the simple opportunity to tell my side of the story. Once you have heard all -- and I stress all -- of the facts, I will then accept your judgment, whatever that may be.
At this time, I do not believe I am mentally or physically prepared to step on to a football field. Every ounce of energy has been spent to rid myself and my family of these untruthful allegations. I look forward to the day when I can once again concentrate on my physical well being and my playing career.
May God bless the Green Bay Packers, the fans and their players.
