Police Still Talking with Santa Monica Hostage-Taker

Aired July 4, 2000 - 7:59 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Before we wrap up this hour, we want to give you one quick update on a story we've been following all morning out in Santa Monica.

On the Santa Monica Pier, we have been following a hostage situation there. You are looking at a picture we are getting in courtesy of our affiliate KABC. We understand a police negotiator has been talking to a gunman who is holding some hostages and, some time ago, the Associated Press reported that three hostages have been released. There are still a number being held inside.

And we'll have more on that for you in a couple minutes.

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Things are developing very quickly on that story.
