Eight People Killed in Moscow Bomb BlastAired August 8, 2000 - 10:56 a.m. ET

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: In central Moscow, in Pushkin Square, an underground passenger route, apparently the site of a major explosion earlier today. The word we're getting here through the Associated Press and our through our people with CNN on the ground there, several people injured. Right now, the death total is at eight.
Again, Pushkin Square in central Moscow, if you've ever been there you know there are quite large streets and boulevards that run through the center section of the city, and there are a number of these underground passenger routes which a number of people take to safely cross those streets.
Apparently, though, the word we're getting so far is that an explosion, a rather large explosion did occur earlier today, eight people dead, several more injured.
CNN's Steve Harrigan also on the scene there. We will establish contact with Steve shortly here and let you know what we are getting word from the scene there.
Again, eight dead in central Moscow, many more injured. As soon as we get more information from there we'll bring you up to date on that. Again, that is from Moscow.
