8 People Killed in Moscow Bomb Explosion

Aired August 8, 2000 - 10:48 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Want to update the story, that explosion that occurred in Central Moscow a short time ago. Earlier, we reported the story, now getting word through the Associated Press, in central Moscow, eight people have been killed, the result of explosion there. They were in Pushkin Square is the point of the blast.

The reason for the blast not quite clear just yet. But clearly an explosion did take place there earlier. Several people have been injured. The word we are getting also, eight people confirmed dead through CNN in central Moscow a short time ago.

Steve Harrigan is in Moscow with CNN, on his way to the scene. We hope to talk to Steve in the next hour on what is happening with the very latest from there.

Again, eight dead as a result of an explosion in central Moscow. More details forthcoming here on CNN's "MORNING NEWS."
