Aired August 9, 2000 - 11:10 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to split our screen right now. There's President Gerald Ford looking in good health as he leaves the hospital in Philadelphia. We understand the former president has some words.

(JOINED IN PROGRESS)

GERALD FORD, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: I want to thank everybody at the hospital. It's a marvelous facility, a great staff, and they did a super job. And my wife and family are most grateful for the hospitality and friendship here in Philadelphia. We have good memories. Thank you very, very much.

KAGAN: And with that, former President Gerald Ford is off. He's going to catch a private plane and head to his home in Palm Springs, California.
