GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH (R), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Thank you all. Thank you all so very much. Hey, I'm glad we came this morning. Thank you.

(APPLAUSE)

Congressman Gallegly said, you know, "If you come here to Oxnard there may be a few people that want to come out and say hello."

(APPLAUSE)

He forgot to tell me that 3,000 people were going to be here.

(APPLAUSE)

I'm so grateful. He said, "Try 6,000." However many is here, thanks for coming. I told him, "Congressman, be patient, help is on the way."

(APPLAUSE)

I want to thank all the local officials for being here. But most importantly, I want to thank you all for coming.

(SPEAKING IN SPANISH)

(APPLAUSE)

As you can tell -- as you can tell, I am traveling here "con mi espousa (ph)."

(APPLAUSE)

It's a true story that when I asked her to marry me, I said, "Would you marry me?" She said, "Only if I don't have to give any speeches."

(LAUGHTER) I said OK. Fortunately, she didn't hold me to that promise. What a fantastic speech she gave.

(APPLAUSE)

I was so proud of her. America's going to love her -- if all goes well, America is going to love her as the first lady. She brings a lot...

(APPLAUSE)

My running mate is in another part of the country today, but I want to remind you all that during the selection process I told the American people that I would select a running mate who, if need be, could become president of the United States. I found that man in Dick Cheney.

WATERS: As George W. Bush said, his partner in the race for the White House, Dick Cheney is in Missouri, campaigning separate from the presidential candidate on the GOP side today. George W. Bush with his wife on the train, which will head out of Oxnard, to Ventura, Guadalupe, San Luis Obispo. Speeches from the train. Over the weekend, it was Bush and Cheney in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois on Sunday. And this is how it's going to go.

Gore and Lieberman are together today. They were earlier in Carthage, Tennessee. They are off to Connecticut now, campaigning together, and the election season is heating up.
