Aired August 14, 2000 - 2:15 p.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: Again, the latest on that Russian nuclear sub that sank in the Barents Sea with 107 people on board.

CNN's Steve Harrigan reporting from our Moscow bureau that a rescue attempt is being made. Earlier, there were signs that the chance for a rescue didn't look very good. We'll have to wait and see the next news update that we get from Moscow. Apparently, this submarine suffered serious damage when it had some sort of collision. We don't know what it collided with. The Russians aren't saying yet.

This is one of Russia's newer nuclear submarines and it was on a training exercise when this collision occurred.

We'll continue to bring you details of news from Russia.
