Aired January 19, 2001 - 4:21 p.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

JOIE CHEN, CNN ANCHOR: The beginning of George W. Bush's presidency is now just hours away. And in Washington, the inaugural celebrations are already in full swing. Right now we see another George Bush, that would be George P. Bush, the president-elect's nephew, speaking at a youth rally as part of the inaugural festivities.

Let's listen to him as he warms up the crowd.

(JOINED IN PROGRESS)

GEORGE P. BUSH, NEPHEW OF THE PRESIDENT-ELECT: ... We're then going to hear from the man we're all here to honor this weekend, your new president, my uncle, George W. Bush.

(APPLAUSE)

G. BUSH: We're going to have music, entertainment, and a few surprise guests throughout night. Remember, this is a celebration of the youth of America. This night is about us. So enjoy yourself this evening. I now -- I want to bring on someone many of you already know. He's a member of the Bush family, and he's going to introduce the first band for this evening; a dear friend of mine, Billy Bush.

(MUSIC)

BILLY BUSH, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: All right. How's everybody doing? Up there, how are we doing?

You guys want to get going? You want some music tonight? How are we doing back here? Let's go.

How about here? Let's go. Up top, let's go.

(APPLAUSE)

B. BUSH: George P., he's been called the Ricky Martin of the Bush family. Wait a minute. He can't compete with that. Tonight we've got great music, great entertainment. Nine Days is in the House tonight. Country star Lee Ann Womack in the house tonight.

(APPLAUSE)

B. BUSH: 98 Degrees will hit the stage.

(APPLAUSE)

B. BUSH: And I tell you, when I saw the American Music Awards, one thing I came away with in my heart was Jessica Simpson. She's here tonight. And right now, we're going to get this place going with some of the most amazing singers in the world today. I believe they're leading the pack on Grammy nominations. Stand up put it together for Destiny's Child.

CHEN: For our viewers who are just joining us now, we're watching some of the inaugural festivities under way in Washington. This is a special celebration honoring the nation's youth, and performing before them now, Destiny's Child.

(MUSIC)

CHEN: They say the writing is on the wall. It is as Destiny's Child, part of the youth celebration festivities, part of the inaugural events for the presidency George W. Bush. CNN will continue to follow the events up in Washington throughout this hour and throughout this evening as well.
