THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Let's update that top story that we had this morning from the entertainment world. Let's go now to New York and the official announcement now of Regis Philbin's new official co- host.
(JOINED IN PROGRESS)
KELLY RIPA, CO-HOST, "LIVE! WITH REGIS": She hopes that I have 15 wonderful years with Regis like she had, and that she thinks that I'm lucky and it's a wonderful job. And she's just been so gracious and so wonderful. And I'm a big fan of hers and I don't think there's any replacing Kathie Lee. And like I said before, I think that Regis could do this show all by himself forever, so I'm just fortunate to be along for the ride.
QUESTION: Kelly, what's your pregnancy -- what are your plans as far as allotting your time between your two jobs" And how will this affect your presence on "All My Children"?
RIPA: My presence on "All My Children," I will be written down. I won't be as -- I don't think that I will have such a tremendous storyline as I've had, so I will be able to spend time with both of my children, which has always been my primary goal, which is why this job was so appealing to me, because you could raise your babies and still work and, you know, make a nice income and...
REGIS PHILBIN, HOST, "LIVE! WITH REGIS": Somebody did that before.
RIPA: Somebody did that before me, yes.
PHILBIN: No, actually the job does lend itself for motherhood. And because, for all intents and purposes, after this hour is over, outside of some little -- maybe a little meeting here and there, she's free to leave and it's -- the rest of the day is hers.
RIPA: Yes, it's terrific. It's ideal.
PHILBIN: So it is pretty good.
QUESTION: Kelly, how did you find out and when did you find out? RIPA: Oh, OK, when did I find out? I sort of found out -- Walter Liszt (ph) called me at home. Well, actually, I think Angela -- Walter Liszt and Angela Schapiro (ph) called me at home. And it was the night before I was leaving for vacation.
Honey, what night was that? It was a Friday night. We were having Kentucky Fried Chicken.
And they -- we got the phone call offering the job, at which time my agent, Jim Ornstein with William Morris then called me to also offer me the job. And I said, well, you're too late.
Everyone has been -- you know, everyone was calling to offer me the job, which was so strange because nobody was for such a long time.
And so it was a nice way to go on vacation. You know, the next morning we left for St. Lucia and I spent the next seven days on the phone with Jim Ornstein going back and forth and talking about, you know, when do you want to take maternity leave and when, you know, when do you want to do this? And it was the easiest contract to negotiate. I mean, it's the contract that negotiates itself. It was...
QUESTION: Was this a month ago or (OFF-MIKE)?
RIPA: No, it was two weeks -- what was it, two weeks ago, honey?
Two weeks ago.
QUESTION: Was Mr. Philbin prepared in case...
HARRIS: That is the official public announcement of what apparently was decided upon a matter of weeks ago. Kelly Ripa of "All My Children" fame is now going to be sitting beside Regis Philbin on "Live! With Regis" in the morning. It's going to be, I guess, "Live! With Kelly and Regis," or "Regis and Kelly" from now on. And I'm assuming that the honey she was referring to...
KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Was her husband.
HARRIS: ... is her husband, Mark Consuelos, who also...
PHILLIPS: He's also a soap opera...
HARRIS: ... is also on the soap opera as well. So there you go.
