Battle Bots And Scooters Provide Hours of Amusement for KidsAired February 13, 2001 - 2:48 p.m. ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: We interrupted the technogadget guy to conduct a live interview in outer space.
NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: I hope Ed will forgive us. Is that what you're saying?
WATERS: It all kind of fits together.
ED CURRAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Absolutely it does. Are you kidding? The astronauts would love to play with these little radio- controlled toys. We left you with Spinmaster's Great Intruder airplane, a powerful thing. But if your adventures with radio control are going to be on the ground rather than in the air, here is something amazing.
These are Battle Bots. "Battle Bots," it's a great show that happens to be on Comedy Central in which these robots battle each other. And people build them a battle each other and here we've got two of them from Tiger Electronics, and watch these little guys go.
Now, the battle each other -- see, like that, and they've got different weapons. The other one has jaws. I'm doing the little pyramid shaped one. See, and we try to flip each other over and we get points for different things we do. These are hot. And they will go for anywhere from $20 to $40, available from Tiger Electronics later on this year, Battle Bots. Now look it, I'm in the jaws of that one. Pretty amazing stuff.
ALLEN: I am not having that in my house.
CURRAN: Now, here is something for the preteen who may have a cellular phone. You take a cellular phone, you have it in on ring. It's in you're back pocket, but of course, you're at an N'Sync concert, so how do you know your phone is going off.
This great device is the C-Watch Wireless and what happens is my phone is in my back pocket. I'm at the concert. I can't hear it. When my phone rings, my cell phone rings, my watch goes off. Starts flashing with these little red LEDs and vibrating on my wrist to tell me I have a call.
Now, isn't that neat? Automatically, no wires attached from your wireless phone. Really neat technology. This is the C-Watch Wireless. Finally, we have scooters, the razor scooters. We have scooters for older people like from Zappy and people like that. This is an electric scooter from Fisher Price, $250. And watch this thing here.
There we go. Goes only about 6 1/2 miles an hour. So, the really little kid can ride it and not have a problem. Whoa, I'm right off camera. Here we go. Isn't this fun? $250 from Fisher Price. It has a weight limit of 150 pounds which means I'm right on that line.
CURRAN: This is a lot of fun. All these things at Toy Fair, you'll see coming up anywhere from spring to the end of year. The scooter won't be out until about December, but looks to be real neat and I'm sure it'll be a hit with how popular scooters are these days.
WATERS: I bet you drive your wife nuts.
CURRAN: Yes, I do.
ALLEN: Thanks, Ed.
CURRAN: Thank you, guys.
