LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Some elementary students in Michigan have their own way of fighting terrorism with a song in their hearts.

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Sandra Alee (ph) of our Detroit affiliate WJBK brings us their patriotic effort.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(CHILDREN SINGING)

MATTHEW MANNETIE, 5TH GRADER: There's a lot of sad things that are going on and even for Afghanistan there's sad things that are happening to those people. And so it would be good if we all came together and did something for their country.

SANDRA ALEE, WJBK-TV REPORTER: And that something is this CD, eight patriotic songs performed by third, fourth and fifth graders from Troy Union Elementary. They wanted to help but didn't know how until their teacher suggested music.

(CHILDREN SINGING)

MICHELLE MATHER, 5TH GRADER: We really tried to like think (really hard and not be all quiet, because it's nice to be good to like our whole country.

ALEE: So they got out the keyboard and sang their hearts out.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Very quickly it took a life of its own, and we did produce the CD in about three days.

ALEE: Less than a week and the project was complete. Even though these students may be too young to understand the scope of what's happened, they're learning a lesson far beyond their years.

SIMAN MAND, 5TH GRADER: We should stick up for our country and we should help the victims in New York.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

PHILLIPS: Once again, that was Sandra Alee from our affiliate in Detroit WJBK -- very cute story.

HARRIS: Literally out of the mouths of babes there on that one. TO ORDER A VIDEO OF THIS TRANSCRIPT, PLEASE CALL 800-CNN-NEWS OR USE OUR SECURE ONLINE ORDER FORM LOCATED AT www.fdch.com
