BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: From Southern California, getting word now on the disappearance of Danielle van Dam. According to police, they have informed CNN that they have made an arrest in that case. The girl who turned up missing several weeks ago from her home just outside the city limits in San Diego.

We are told, through sources, that the arrest centers around a neighbor, possibly living right across the street. You may recall this from our coverage on this story. Danielle van Dam has been missing for weeks. There have been no sign of her whereabouts, no evidence leading police or investigators or detectives to finding her whereabouts at this point, but it was several weeks ago, late on a Friday night, in which her parents report that they put Danielle van Dam to bed around 10:00 -- 10:00 in the evening, and when they went to check on her in the morning, she was gone out of her bedroom and out of the house.

It has been a search that has been quite fruitless at many turns. At one point, investigators going deep into the desert there, east of San Diego looking for the possibility of evidence or clues in Southern California.

But as best we can tell and gauge right now, those efforts have been quite fruitless, but we may find out more in a briefing there in Southern California, getting a word right now, 12:30 local time on the West coast, should be about 3:30 East coast time, and certainly when police have that announcement, and when they are ready to talk with reporters there, we will carry it for you live. Danielle van Dam, apparently there are developments, according to police. We will have it for you, an about an hour and 15 minutes from now.
