BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: President Bush has arrived in Berlin. Traveling with the president is Secretary of State Colin Powell, now speaking live in Germany. Here is Secretary Powell.

COLIN POWELL, SECRETARY OF STATE: So, very pleased to be here and looking forward to the trip tomorrow. And I know the president is very excited about the prospect of meeting not only German leaders tomorrow, but having an opportunity to meet members of the Bundestag and just to see Berlin.

Thank you very much.

Questions? Nein? Auf Wiedersehen.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)

POWELL: I'm sure that in the course of their conversations they will talk about those nations that are developing weapons of mass destruction that threaten us all, and I'm quite confident they'd have a conversation on Iraq in that category.

We are in constant discussion with our German friends about these nations that are pursuing these kinds of weapons, and Iraq certainly, as one of the foremost advocates of obtaining this kind of capability, and they're working at it.

POWELL: For that reason, it's important for us to stay in close consultation with Germans as to what we might be required to do, both in a multilateral setting within the U.N. and other ways to deal with this regime that shows total lack of responsibility with respect to the opinion of the world and the danger that it presents to the world.

OK? Thank you.

HEMMER: Colin Powell with a brief statement there, upon his arrival there in Berlin. Germany is the first stop along this week- long tour. Germany is one stop, Berlin today. Later he will take to other parts of Europe, including Russia at the end of the week. France and Italy are two stops in between.
