Aired November 19, 2002 - 06:11   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We have some pictures out of New York City, I believe out of Harlem. Let's take a look at the shot that we have right now.
Apparently this is a huge apartment building on fire in Harlem at 92 Morningside Avenue. That's at 122nd Street. I believe it broke out on the fourth floor in an apartment there at about 1:45 Eastern Time. That's this morning.

Let's see, fire marshals tell us that the fire was caused by careless smoking. Two residents injured, including a 105-year-old woman who was being treated for smoke inhalation. She's at St. Luke's Hospital right now. Two hundred firefighters and 44 fire companies are fighting this blaze.

These pictures coming to us from our affiliate WABC out of New York City. And you can see the smoke just pouring.

CHAD MYERS, CNN METEOROLOGIST: Clearly nowhere near being knocked out.

COSTELLO: Oh no!

MYERS: I've got fire here on the front face. We have obviously three or four hot spots coming through the roof.

COSTELLO: And you know these kind of fires are really hard to put out because it's a really old building and they don't have the firewalls in place like...

MYERS: Sure.

COSTELLO: ... newly constructed buildings do.

MYERS: Yes, it looks like pre-war. It does, yes.

COSTELLO: Yes, so the fire just spreads from apartment to apartment.

So, as you can see, they're busy fighting that fire. We'll keep you up to date. These pictures out of Harlem, New York City.

MYERS: Looks like they need some help, too.

COSTELLO: Yes, well our best to them.

MYERS: Yes, (UNINTELLIGIBLE). Yes. TO ORDER A VIDEO OF THIS TRANSCRIPT, PLEASE CALL 800-CNN-NEWS OR USE OUR SECURE ONLINE ORDER FORM LOCATED AT www.fdch.com
