CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Hans Blix is speaking before the European Union in Brussels, and we want to go to that press conference right now -- let's listen.
(JOINED IN PROGRESS)
HANS BLIX, CHIEF U.N. WEAPONS INSPECTOR: ... through the United Nations and through the inspections that I represent. And we feel that Iraq must do more than they have done so far in order to make this a credible avenue. They have presented a declaration of 12,000 pages that did not provide any new evidence, and they need to be active, not to (UNINTELLIGIBLE) the word proactive, in order to convince the Security Council through us that they do not have any more weapons of mass destruction, or else if they are there, that they deliver them so that they can be destroyed under our supervision.
The other major option, as you know, is the one that we have seen taking shape in the form of an armed action against Iraq. And of course, for my part, and on the part of Mr. ElBaradei, we try our best to make the inspections effective, and so that we can have a peaceful solution. But that requires Iraqi action and this is the (UNINTELLIGIBLE) bring to it.
We have time for a few questions. I'll give the first to the lady.
QUESTION: Two quick questions from Reuters. First of all...
COSTELLO: And you're listening to Hans Blix, who is speaking before the European Union in Brussels saying Iraq needs to cooperate more with weapons inspectors.
After this, he'll continue on his European tour and eventually end up in Baghdad with Mohamed ElBaradei.
