THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: We take you now to Washington, where Senator Bill Frist, the Republican majority leader, is now talking just outside of the White House. He along with some other Republican leaders there in the Congress were meeting with President Bush this morning.
(JOINED IN PROGRESS)
SEN. BILL FRIST (R-TN), MAJORITY LEADER: ... over the next couple of weeks.
In addition to that, we will be addressing Energy and the United States Senate, which will come to the floor sometime in the next 10 days to two weeks and a range of other issues. In general, we'll be coming back to Medicare and prescription drugs, and we in the United States Senate will very aggressively address an issue that is very important to Americans.
So a very productive meeting, a pivotal meeting, as we transition to a razor sharp and focused light on the jobs and growth and economic package.
Let me allow some other people, then I'll be happy to answer some questions.
SEN. KAY BAILEY HUTCHISON (R), TEXAS: Let me say that I visited with the prisoners of war that had returned to Ft. Bliss last week, and I told the president about the visit with the five happiest people that I think I have ever seen in my life. And I also told him a message that I promised I would deliver from Mr. Kiel (ph), who is the father of one of those who did not return from that 507th Maintenance Unit from Ft. Bliss.
And Mr. Kiel said, I want you to tell the president that I am so proud of what he's done, and the only thing that would make me sad and think that my son had died in vain is if the president doesn't finish the job. And I did deliver that message to the president. And I wanted him to know how this man, who had lost his most precious possession, felt about what the president was doing and the president's total commitment to finishing the war on terrorism, and the president was very touched.
HARRIS: All right, just wanted to give you a brief snippet there of this impromptu press conference being held outside the White House there. The Republican leadership just leaving a meeting with President Bush this morning. AS we just heard there, a variety of topics were being discussed there.
