Aired July 20, 2003 - 09:14   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: In just a couple of days, someone may own the house at No. 12 Pickett Post Close in Britain. Though some of you may better recognize it as No. 4 Privet Drive. CNN's Fionnuala Sweeney describes why it's such a piece of hot property.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

FIONNUALA SWEENEY, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice over): A typical scene on the suburbia, cars and driveways manicured lawns, yet the sale of one property in Pickett Post Close, is arousing particular interest. No. 12 may not look out of the ordinary, but then you may not recognize it without the owls or a certain be speckled boy wizard.

For on film, No. 12 Pickett Post Close becomes No. 4 Privet Drive. The home of Harry Potter's villainous relatives is going on the auction block Tuesday, July 22. And those widespread interest in owning a piece of celluloid history.

CHRIS COLEMAN SMITH, AUCTIONEER: We've had loads of interest. It's been quite amazing -- other than, obviously, the media interest, it's been quite extraordinary. We've had all sorts, local interests, interests from London, other parts of the U.K. Plus, would you believe, I had a lady calling up from Moscow last week. Said she'd heard about it and she might be interested. So, who knows?

SWEENEY: Experts say the current wave of Potter mania caused by J.K. Rowling's latest offering may help to drive up the price. The house is almost something of a local landmark for Potter tourists. But residents of the quiet neighborhood seem to enjoy the limelight.

LIZ: We do have children coming out to take photographs, and their parents, and sometimes adults, but no, it hasn't changed, no. It's fun.

SWEENEY: With an auction price that will start at about $400,000, many of Harry's younger fans may find their pocket money doesn't stretch quite that far. But grownup Muggles should note an invaluable piece of Potter memorabilia awaits.

Fionnuala Sweeney, CNN, London.
