CNN SATURDAY MORNING NEWS

Interview with Alanna Fincke

Aired August 2, 2003 - 07:18   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

VAUSE: Haven't had enough of Ben and Jen? Let's talk some more about Hollywood's latest power couple with Alanna Fincke of "In Touch Weekly" magazine. She joins us from New York.
How bad is it, this horrible movie?

ALANNA FINCKE, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": Well, rumor has it that they're -- actually their onscreen chemistry is great, but the story line and the direction, not so good.

VAUSE: Is it true that they wanted -- when they did all the audience testing, that the audience wanted a bloody ending where Ben and J.Lo both were murdered in a bloodbath?

FINCKE: I don't know the truth of those rumors, but you'll have to check out the movie for yourself to see the ending.

VAUSE: Does it work, having these Hollywood couples on screen? It hasn't really -- you know, you look at Nicole and Tom and Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin, it's always been a bit of a disaster, hasn't it?

FINCKE: Not always. Historically, sometimes it has. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can look at Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Filpe (ph). They worked together in "Cruel Intentions," and that was a really, you know, really good movie, had good sales, and made good chemistry.

VAUSE: Is this movie getting so much publicity purely because it really is bad, or is it just because people have had really enough of these two?

FINCKE: Well, I don't know that we can really get enough of Ben and Jen. They are...

VAUSE: Oh, I think you can.

FINCKE: Well, I mean...

VAUSE: Trust me.

FINCKE: ... as far as our readers go, they always want to know more about them. They are the Hollywood couple right now.

VAUSE: I mean, it's kind of galling. I mean, I was doing a little bit of reading here, just a little bit, but, you know, $100,000 in cash for a couple of Rolexes, thousands of Gucci shopping sprees...

FINCKE: Don't forget the Bentleys.

VAUSE: Oh, the Bentley. But wasn't there $100,000 toilet seat or something made of diamonds? I don't know whether that was some rumor that was going around. And then there was a -- you know, that really tasteful engagement ring that he got for her.

I mean, this is really in-your-face galling stuff, isn't it? It's kind of tacky.

FINCKE: Well, yes, they have a lot of money, but, you know, you have to understand, these are two big stars. They both are very closely watched, they both have had very high-profile romances even before meeting each other. Don't forget, J.Lo went out with Puffy, and then she married Chris Judd, one of her backup dancers, you know, and then left him a few months later and ended up with Ben.

VAUSE: Can't we just pretend that they've already both broken up...

FINCKE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...

VAUSE: ... and get over this? Can't we just pretend...

FINCKE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...

VAUSE: ... that it's already over?

FINCKE: Right. I think we should try to at least give it a chance. She did get a big ring, right?

VAUSE: Well, there's a rumor going around the Internet that these two guys have bought the rights to "Casablanca." Is there any truth in that?

FINCKE: I'm not sure. I've heard the same. It hasn't been verified either way. But, you know, then we would see them working again, right?

VAUSE: Oh, yes, whoopee. What about the other good one, is -- I just love this quote, when J.Lo was talking about the fact that she's a caregiver, and she urged him to, well, shave and use a little hair gel. What a great couple.

FINCKE: Well, you saw the "Dateline." She was cooking chicken for him.

VAUSE: Yes.

FINCKE: She cooks for him, she takes care of him. I think that she likes to do that, and I think that he likes that too.

VAUSE: Oh, that's so sweet. And he had $36 million last year, so they're just Mr. and Mrs. Average.

FINCKE: Absolutely, and they just bought, like, a 65 million- acre home in Savannah, Georgia, (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...

VAUSE: Doesn't everyone have one of those?

FINCKE: Yes, exactly.

VAUSE: OK. (UNINTELLIGIBLE), thanks for joining us this morning.

FINCKE: Thank you.
