CNN LIVE SATURDAY

Michael Jackson Throws Party at Neverland Ranch

Aired December 20, 2003 - 16:22   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

HOLLY FIRFER, CNN ANCHOR: Well, despite his legal troubles, Michael Jackson is taking time to thank his supporters. Relatives and friends of the entertainer are at his Neverland Ranch today in a show of support as he fights child molestation charges.
Let's go to CNN's Miguel Marquez in Los Olivos, California.

Hi Migel.

MIGUEL MARQUEZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: How are you there Holly.

We are right inside Neverland Ranch, and I can tell you we've been here for several hours, and dozens and dozens and dozens of cars have showed up, all of them packed with people. They are expecting hundreds of people at Neverland Ranch today, and it seems this support rally is going off as planned, just a couple of days after Mr. Jackson was charged with seven counts of molestation. The minor and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent to a minor, it seems that friends, family, and fans are gathering here at Neverland Ranch to show their support. We talked to a few earlier today as they were going into this party. Here's what they had to say about Mr. Jackson.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: People don't want to hear the good stuff because that doesn't sell. People don't really care about that. There's a lot of good stuff out there. I know it personally because I've been there, and I've seen it happen. But, of course, nobody's going to report on that.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We're here to support michael jackson with our heart and soul and our spirit and just our presence.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MARQUEZ: Now, it seems that the public relations offensive by Mr. Jackson, his attorney and friends and family are all getting under way. A Web site today was launched. It was supposed to be launched a couple of weeks ago, they announced. Today it was finally it was launched, mjnetworks.com. And already it has gotten 15,000 hits. So, there was a lot of interest out there to support Mr. Jackson. One question, though, is whether or not Mr. Jackson will be going to England at all. You know he had worked out a deal with his lawyers and the prosecutor to get his passport back and go to England for a couple of weeks so he could do some business there. But now several members of parliament in London have voiced publicly their concern about Michael Jackson going there, and they have asked that he not be allowed -- Holly.

FIRFER: Miguel, do we know what he's going to be doing in london?

They say business, but what is this business?

MARQUEZ: Mr. Geragos said, I believe on "LARRY KING" the other night that he may be doing promotion for his latest album, his number ones hit that was coming out just as the charges were filed, and his ranch was being searched. That may be it. He may be doing concerts, it's not entirely clear. His spokesperson said he was just going to be enjoying the holidays there. So, it's not entirely clear. The other thing I should tell you is it's not entirely clear that Mr. Jackson is actually here. I did talk to a spokesperson who said that was the idea for Mr. Jackson to be here. But it's not clear he's here at all. We certainly haven't seen any sign of it -- Holly.

FIRFER: Miguel Marquez, many thanks.
