BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: Britney Spears could be in legal trouble for taking her kids to Vegas.
And we`ll tell you who is reportedly taking Rosie`s spot on "The View." I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.

On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the unbelievable story of what might have really happened the night Lindsay Lohan got arrested. Tonight, the incredible claims these guys are making about Lindsay`s bizarre behavior -- did she carjack them before she was arrested?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m like, you`re going to kill us. That`s when she was like, I don`t give a (EXPLETIVE DELETED) about it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Plus, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the frantic call to 911. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the outrageous details of Lindsay`s wild ride.

Nicole Richie headed to jail. First Paris, now Nicole, so much for "The Simple Life." Tonight, Nicole Richie`s dramatic appearance in court. How much time did she get for DUI? And what`s behind the deal that she struck? And oh, yes, isn`t she gonna have a baby? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the inside story of Nicole Richie going to jail.

Hello, I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. A.J. has the night off. Happy Friday to you. Tonight, we have a great idea for a new "Law And Order" franchise; Law and Order: The party girls. Nicole Richie now has something else in common with her "Simple Life" co-star, Paris Hilton. Richie found out today that she, too, is going to jail.

Richie got sentenced on her DUI charge, a story still developing right now. And we will have the latest in just a moment.

But first, Lindsay Lohan gone wild. Tonight, startling new details of what happened the night she got arrested from the guys who claim they were with her that night. And if that`s not enough, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has obtained the chilling 911 call that was made as Lindsay allegedly took them on a wild ride before her arrest on DUI and cocaine charges.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT brings you all the drama.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): A starlet out of control.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She said, no, I can`t get in trouble. I`m a celebrity. I can do whatever the (EXPLETIVE DELETED) I want.

ANDERSON: High speed pursuits.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She was probably going 100 miles an hour the whole time.

ANDERSON: And a frightening road experience.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Oh, my god, are they following us?

ANDERSON: New allegations from the night Lindsay Lohan got busted on DUI and cocaine possession charges, and SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, each one is weirder, more shocking than the last.

FRANGELA, COMEDIC DUO: This is not a Hollywood scene. It is like a "Cops" episode.

ANDERSON: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has for you the guys who say they were unwilling passengers in the car Lindsay Lohan allegedly drove in a high speed chase through the streets of Los Angeles, a wild ride that ended with her second DUI arrest. And we also have the frantic 911 call from the car Lohan was allegedly chasing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We need help.

ANDERSON: Less than three weeks ago, Lindsay finished a long stay in rehab that everybody hoped would help her tame her wild partying. But in the late night hours before her arrest, her partying allegedly spun out of control once again.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m like, no, don`t drive.

ANDERSON: These three friends tell TMZ.com they were at party with Lindsay and her assistant Tarin Graham. They say Lindsay and her assistant Tarin got into an argument. Tarin quit her job with Lindsay, they say, and got in a car and sped off.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That`s when Lindsay reaches over me, because my window is down, snags the key out of my ignition, runs around the car, pops in the car.

ANDERSON: These three friends claim they were sitting in an SUV when an out of control Lindsay commandeered it to take off after her escaping assistant.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m like, no, you know, don`t drive. That`s when he hops out of the car.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I jump out of the car as she`s just about to start accelerating. She accelerates. She runs over my foot.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She actually ran over your foot?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She actually ran over my foot. And she didn`t stop. She kept moving. She kept driving.

FRANGELA: Correct me if I`m wrong, but when you take somebody`s car, right, and they in it, saying please don`t take me, we call that a car jacking. Yes.

ANDERSON: L.A. comedy duo Frangela tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT the allegation is shocking.

FRANGELA: I have quit jobs in my past. I have never been chased by my boss.

No. The manager at McDonald`s didn`t follow me nowhere.

ANDERSON: The car Lohan`s assistant Tarin was in was reportedly driven by Tarin`s mother, who called 911 reporting somebody was chasing her. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT obtained that tape.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What is going on there?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don`t -- we were just about to park her car. We were driving home and out of nowhere a huge white GMC came up.

FRANGELA: She was -- it is bad had you`re -- the assistant`s mom has to do a Tokyo drift to get way from Lindsay Lohan.

ANDERSON: A scene from a "Fast and the Furious" movie is exactly what Lohan`s alleged passengers are describing. They say Lindsay was running red lights and may have been going as fast as 100 miles an hour at times.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And then this is when, you know, I`m like, dude, you`re going to kill us. And that`s when she`s like, you know, I don`t give a (EXPLETIVE DELETED) about it. She`s like I don`t give a (EXPLETIVE DELETED). I can`t get in trouble. She`s like --

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What do you mean she can`t get in trouble? Did she say why?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Because she knows people who can do things.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She says, no, I can`t get in trouble. I`m a celebrity. I can do whatever the (EXPLETIVE DELETED) I want.

ANDERSON: Meanwhile, in the car with the assistant and her mother, we hear the mother pleading with the 911 operator for help. Apparently still not knowing who is chasing her.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re being followed by a GMC. The gentleman jumped out of the car.

-- my gosh, they`re following us. We need help.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Where are you?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re right now on Arizona --

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I need to know exactly where you are so I can send you help.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My god, are they following us?

FRANGELA: The poor woman is screaming, you know, I don`t know who is following me. And it is a trap.

ANDERSON: The chase ends in this Santa Monica parking lot, where the two cars are met by the police.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They sit us down and they arrest her and they put her about 40 feet away from us and you can -- we can hear her saying that, no, no, I wasn`t driving, the black kid was driving.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She said the black kid was driving.

FRANGELA: I know Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are on a plane right now.

ANDERSON: In the end, it was Lohan arrested for DUI that night. Police say when they took her to the station, they found cocaine in her pocket. Lohan is claiming the drugs weren`t hers, saying, quote, I am innocent. The big question now, will Lohan also claim she wasn`t driving that night?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Now we want to hear from you about this. It is our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day, Lindsay Lohan, does she deserve to go to jail? Vote at CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT. Send us an e-mail.

Now we have the latest on Nicole Richie. Another shocker today for Hollywood`s party girls as Richie was sentenced to four days in jail for her December DUI. She also has to pay a 2,000 dollar fine and she`ll be on probation for three years. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was right there outside the court as reporters asked the D.A.`s office if the sentence was tough enough.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CAROLINA LUGO, L.A. DISTRICT ATTORNEY`S OFFICE: Absolutely. As he should be stern with every human being who walks in and drives while they are under the influence. It is a crime. That`s why we`re all here. That`s why you`re here. And she committed that crime. She pled guilty for it, took responsibility and now she`s -- knows the severity of it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Joining me tonight from Hollywood is investigative journalist Pat Lalama and from New York, Court TV anchor Jean Casarez. You know, ladies, I hate to be the cynic here, but a 2,000 dollar fine, four days in jail, she still gets to keep her driver`s license, even though this is a second offense. And, Pat, I know this is what the law dictates, but come on. Do you think the punishment really fit the crime?

PAT LALAMA, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: And you want to know something, the commissioner, Steve Labell (ph), is not an easy one. He`s known to be tough. And she was in trouble before in Malibu a few years ago with heroin. Can you imagine -- we were discussing this -- do you know how out of it you have to be to be stopped in the car pool lane, on the freeway, going the wrong way? Do you know how out of it you have to be.

ANDERSON: Luckily, I don`t, Pat. Driving the wrong way on a freeway completely irresponsible. It could have been disastrous.

LALAMA: It is so potentially dangerous. And you know what, each court, each judge weighs -- they go on their intuition, their instinct and by the law. This commissioner, I have a lot of faith in. I don`t know. Maybe -- even though they deny they took the alleged pregnancy into consideration, maybe he did. I don`t know. But somebody has got to lay the gauntlet down on these people. I don`t know where it begins.

ANDERSON: Jean what do you think? Fair sentence?

JEAN CASAREZ, COURT TV ANCHOR: I`ve been on that freeway. I may be here in New York, but I`ve been on that freeway. That`s a windy freeway. That is a dangerous freeway. Here is what I think is the clincher of the sentence. It is the probation. It is three years probation. And if she violates that probation, she will be back in jail for one year the commissioner says.

So, yes, he`s only giving her four days because she went to court. A sheriff didn`t have to go and pick her up and take her in. She pleaded guilty to this. He`s only giving her four days. But now the proof is in the pudding. In the next three years, she`s going have to change her life.

ANDERSON: You know, I talked to Nicole recently. I asked her if she did expect to serve time for what she had done and let`s listen to what she told me.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NICOLE RICHIE, "THE SIMPLE LIFE": Everything is a possibility at this point. And so I`m not really sure what is going to happen. But, you know, I`m prepared to face whatever consequences come my way.

(END VIDEO CLIP

ANDERSON: Just kind of nonchalant about the whole thing. The court didn`t indicate where she`ll serve her time, whether it is county or city jail. But, Pat, how do you see this playing out? Can we expect that she`ll serve four full days, a whole, you know, 90 -- I think she has to serve 90 of the 96 hours? Or is this going to be another situation where the jail might send her home early?

LALAMA: No, I think Lee Baca would have to be crazy and driving backwards on the freeway to let her out of jail early. She will spend that amount of time. The three years as Jean said is important. Here is why, because I believe sadly that Nicole has a 12-step problem. I think she has a severe addiction problem, as I think Lindsay does.

It will be a day to day battle to stay clean. This isn`t Paris going, oh, I`m going roll up my warrant and throw it out the window because I`m spoiled. This is a woman with a serious -- not Paris -- Nicole has a severe problem, and staying clean for these young people who don`t have the right role models and the right mentors around them is a difficult challenge. I really worry for her in that regard and for her alleged unborn baby and anybody else on the streets of L.A.

ANDERSON: Exactly. You both mentioned that probation that she has to follow the rules for the next 36 months. That means no drinking. That means no driving under the influence, no arrests or she`ll have to serve as much as a year in jail. OK, she already has these two DUIs. She has a prior drug offense. Do you think she will be scared straight?

CASAREZ: You know, time is going to tell. If she is pregnant, then there is another responsibility on her. This is maybe what she needs to just turn around and grow up and she can be that role model. She watched her friend Paris Hilton. She sees Lindsay Lohan. So is that enough of a wakeup call? I guess we all will just have to wait and see.

ANDERSON: Hopefully they can learn to behave themselves and maybe keep other people out of danger. How about that? Start thinking about other people. OK, investigative journalist Pat Lalama, Court TV anchor Jean Casarez, thank you.

Was Nicole`s sentence too lenient. And what about Lindsay Lohan; is there any way she won`t see time behind bars? We`re going to sort it all out for you. A SHOWBIZ special report, crime and punishment, is coming up at 30 minutes past the hour.

Also, secrets from the set of Lindsay Lohan`s new movie from her co- star.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We had difficulties. We shut down for three weeks. There were days we couldn`t shoot, you know, because she wasn`t there.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Lindsay`s co-star in the new film "I Know Who Killed Me" opened up to me about what Lindsay was like on set, when she showed up, that is. She had advice for Lindsay that I think makes a whole lot of sense.

And Britney`s troubles in Vegas. Could Britney be in legal hot water for taking her kids on a trip to Sin City? That`s next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. You`re watching TV`s most provocative news entertainment show. Tonight, is Britney Spears losing it? First, she reportedly storms out of a magazine photo shoot, destroying designer gowns and walking out with more than 20,000 dollars in clothes and jewelry. Then today we learned she suddenly bolted to Las Vegas with her kids, potentially violating terms of her custody agreement.

And now her bodyguard stands accused of attacking two photographers. The drama never ends. Joining me tonight from Hollywood, Judge Glenda Hatchet of the "Judge Hatchet Show" and celebrity publicist Howard Bragman of 15 Minutes PR. Welcome to you both.

Judge Hatchett, how serious is it if Britney did indeed leave the state without permission from the court or from her ex-Kevin Federline, the father of her children? Does she risk losing primary custody here?

JUDGE GLENDA HATCHETT, "JUDGE HATCHETT SHOW": I don`t think this one incident will be determining exactly whether she will lose custody of the children. But the fact she did it, and under California law, it is very clear that you have to have permission, not just permission, you have to have written permission from the other party before you take the children out of state. It is crystal clear. There are no ifs, buts and ands about it.

ANDERSON: It is like she`s thumbing her nose at authority.

HATCHETT: Exactly. That is the problem. And I think we`re kind of talking about some of that later on too. But that is a real problem that seems to be happening over and over again with her. I will tell you that if I were the judge sitting on this case, that would not sit well with me. I wouldn`t make my final decision based on that one incident, but it would certainly weigh in as a big factor for my consideration.

ANDERSON: Howard, you know, the custody case is just one of the issues facing Britney. She seems to be publicly self-destructing, almost on a daily basis. Why do you think Britney just doesn`t seem to understand she`s endangering not only her career, but also, you know, the custody of her kids?

HOWARD BRAGMAN, 15 MINUTES PR: You know, Brooke, we`re asking rational questions about a person who is not rational. Honestly it`s not a joke. But you`re thinking Britney is thinking like we are and this all makes sense. This is not the way this person processes information. And she`s off in wacky, wacky land and the coin is not hitting the slot. It`s that simple.

ANDERSON: That`s very, very sad and that`s a great point. You think she would be rationally approaching these decisions, but maybe not. And Judge Hatchett, Britney`s bodyguard was cited for misdemeanor battery after a fight Thursday with two photographers who were trying to take pictures of Britney with her young children. Now, Britney certainly can`t be surprised that she would be surrounded by paparazzi. Could this be seen as her being irresponsible with her kids, taking them to this place publicly?

HATCHETT: Well, I tell you, it is a balance. It really is. Because you can`t expect her not to go out in public with her children. We don`t want her to have to live a life where she can never go out. But I think you have to make some kind of balance and some determination.

But to Howard`s point, if she continues to appear to be just so whacked out and in some la la land, the question is whether she is fit, whether she is a fit parent for these children. And that`s huge. That`s a huge consideration.

ANDERSON: That`s a big concern. And, you know, Howard, Britney no longer has a team, really, surrounding her, you know. No managers, no publicist. As a celebrity publicist yourself, is that a huge mistake for somebody in her position and do you think that really just adds to the feeding frenzy?

BRAGMAN: Well, I think you look at the incident with "OK! Magazine" and that was absolutely caused by the fact that she didn`t have a publicist. A publicist calls ahead of time and says we won`t need your hair and makeup, we`re bringing our own, which wasn`t done. The publicist talks to the stylist and says what kind of look. You talk to the your client.

She got there. She wasn`t aware of the clothes. She wasn`t happy. These are things a pro doesn`t let happen. And absolutely, you need a publicist to do it.

ANDERSON: Yes. And Judge Hatchett, we talked about this briefly a moment ago, but if you were the presiding judge in this case, and all things being equal, and you had to make a decision today, would you say, Kevin Federline should have primary custody of those two small little boys?

HATCHETT: I will tell you, it would be very hard for me to say emphatically to you right now that he should have custody. I`ll tell you that the more I hear and the more that goes on, I really question whether she is fit to parent these children. And that`s -- at end of the day, the judge has to decide what is in these children`s best interests.

But I think you have to have the totality in front of you and I think you to see all the facts before you make a final decision. She`s not making it easy for the judge to rule in her favor.

ANDERSON: She definitely is not. Judge Glenda Hatchett, celebrity publicist Howard Bragman, thank you both for your insight.

And, of course, Britney isn`t the only one in trouble. Nicole Richie is going to jail. I think her sentence may have been too lenient. and then there is Lindsay Lohan, is there any way she won`t see time behind bars? We`re going sort all of that out for you. A SHOWBIZ special report, crime and punishment; that is coming up at 30 minutes past the hour. We`re also going have this --

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MARTIN SHEEN, ACTOR: The problem with so many young people who almost make it overnight is that they are surrounded by, unfortunately, a lot of sycophants, a lot of yes people, who live off them like the queen bee.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Martin Sheen there, saving the party girls. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT talked to the biggest stars in Hollywood and got some really great advice about how Lindsay and Nicole went wrong and how they can get back on track. You want to stay put to listen to what else Martin Sheen had to say. All of that still ahead.

Who is going to replace Rosie O`Donnell on "The View?" There are reports that the deal is really close. I think it is a great choice. And Rosie, listen to this, Rosie does too. I`ll tell you who is on deck coming up next. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Friday night is headed right back. Don`t go anywhere.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Is Whoopi Goldberg going to be the new co-host of "The View?" "Variety" is reporting that ABC is in final talks with Whoopi. The network will only say that she has been terrific as a guest host and that no deal has been closed. "Variety" also says that ABC is in talks with guest host Sherri Shepherd to join the show as well. They are both fantastic. "The View" is looking to fill two seats at the table.

Rosie O`Donnell left in May. And the show never filled Star Jones- Reynolds` spot after she left the show in 2006. Sources tell "Variety" that an announcement on both deals could come as soon as next week. Someone posted a question on Rosie`s blog, asking what she thought about reports that Whoopi was taking over. Rosie wrote that Whoopi is a great choice. We will keep you posted.

Between Nicole Richie`s jail sentence and Lindsay Lohan possibly facing a laundry list of charges, keeping up with Hollywood`s party girls is getting kind of tough. Is there any way for Lindsay to avoid jail time? Was Nicole`s sentence enough? And will these two ever learn from their mistakes? We have got a SHOWBIZ special report coming up, crime and punishment. That`s next.

Also, secrets from the set of Lindsay Lohan`s new movie from her co- star.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We had difficulties. We shut down for three weeks. There were days we couldn`t shoot because she wasn`t there.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: She was very honest about this. Lindsay`s co-star in the new movie "I Know Who Killed Me" opens up about what Lindsay was like on set when she showed up that that is. Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon (ph) also had some advice for Lindsay that I think makes a whole lot of sense and Lindsay should listen up.

And what is the secret to the success of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas` marriage. Catherine really opened up to me about the key to it all. What she said coming up.

(NEWS BREAK)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, a showbiz special report, "Crime and Punishment." Tonight, one young, out-of-control Hollywood star heading to jail, another could be right behind her, stunning Lindsey Lohan and Nicole Richie developments. And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT goes coast-to-coast to get the fired up reaction from the stars.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I absolutely get what Lindsey is going through, what Paris is going through, what Brittney is going through. They`re spinning out of control. And it is not going to stop or even slow down until somebody, and I hate to say this, somebody is going to die.

ANDERSON: Tonight, we`re asking the controversial questions. Who`s going to jail? Whose career is finished? And will these starlets ever shape up? A SHOWBIZ special report, "Crime and Punishment," starts right now.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. You are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

Tonight, stunning, blockbuster developments surrounding two totally out-of-control, young Hollywood stars -- Nicole Richie and Lindsey Lohan. Here`s the latest on Lindsay.

TMZ.com has some explosive allegations. They are reporting claims by several men that just before Lindsey was arrested for driving under the influence on Tuesday, she carjacked an SUV and took three of them virtually hostage. Then they claim she chased down her personal assistant, driving at nearly 100 miles per hour, which eventually ended in her arrest on DUI and cocaine charges.

Now, another out-of-control Hollywood star had her day in court today.

CAROLINA LUGO, L.A. DISTRICT ATTORNEY: The message is that this is a serious crime. And that if you drive while you are under the influence, you will be charged, and you will be brought into court. And if you drive while under the influence a second time, you will go to jail.

ANDERSON: "The Simple Life`s" Nicole Richie pleaded guilty today, to driving under the influence of drugs in a Los Angeles court. She was sentenced to four days in jail, fined more than $2,000, and put on three years probation. She has until September 28th, to serve her sentence.

Nicole, she was arrested last December, after getting pulled over for driving the wrong way on a California highway. Police say, she admitted to taking the painkiller Vicodin and smoking pot before getting behind the wheel.

So is this the end of the party girls? It`s our SHOWBIZ special report "Crime and Punishment." I`ve got a fired up panel ready to go crazy on this one. Joining me tonight in Hollywood, TV judge Glenda Hatchett, celebrity publicist Howard Bragman, investigative journalist Pat Lalama, and from the Court TV studios in New York, Court TV anchor Jean Casarez.

Pat, let`s start with the Lindsey Lohan story. And you know I have to say, what we found out today was incredible. Now we have the 911 call, the TMZ interview with these guys, who say they were in the car. I am just incredulous. Is your head just spinning?

PAT LALAMA INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, here`s the deal. This guy had a cane and I think something wrapped around his foot because he claimed she ran over his foot, and that she basically car jacked them. This is such erratic behavior.

Keep in mind, Brooke, we`re not just talking about her danger to herself and to society and the criminality involved in this, but now she`s got a slew of civil suits on the way. Trust me.

There is already one filed against her for that 2005 accident on Robertson outside the Ivy. Where she sped away and claimed she was running from the paparazzi. She is in a world of hurt. Somebody has got to stop this. My buddy, Howard Bragman, who I consider the modern day Shakespeare, you know, he said it best. The way this has to be dealt with. This is crazy. This is crazy.

ANDERSON: Yeah, it is. And the guy who said she ran over his foot, he said basically she just tore out down the PCH and left him hobbling down the side of the road.

LALAMA: Unbelievable, unbelievable.

ANDERSON: And Judge Hatchett, you`re the judge, of course, Judge Glenda Hatchett. And, of course, Lindsey has not been convicted of anything just yet, but it is starting to look like there is no way she is going to be able to avoid going to jail, just like Paris and Nicole, right?

GLENDA HATCHETT, "JUDGE HATCHETT SHOW" : Absolutely. First of all, it`s not just the driving under the influence, which is serious enough. This is not her first problem. But we have not one, but two felony counts surrounding the point about her having cocaine on her person, which, of course, she later said, "I didn`t have."

And, you know, enough is enough. Because it is not just her. She is out here driving. And you or your family members, or people that you love could be in her path and then what?

ANDERSON: Exactly.

HATCHETT: What happens?

ANDERSON: Then it could be people could die and the judge said that today, actually, in the Nicole Richie situation. But back to Lindsey.

HATCHETT: She could do a homicide.

ANDERSON: Exactly.

HATCHETT: Talking about vehicular homicide, which is a whole other conversation.

ANDERSON: Very, very serious. None of us want that to happen, whatsoever.

HATCHETT: Right, no, we do not.

ANDERSON: One of the guys who said he was in the car with Lindsey Lohan tells TMZ that he tried to warn Lindsey that she could get into trouble driving the way she was, drinking, they say. I want you to listen to what they say her answer was to that.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Because she knows people who can do things. She said "No I can`t get in trouble, I`m a celebrity. I can do whatever the (BLEEP) I want."

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: OK, Jean, if in fact Lindsey did say that is this just a perfect example of how much she is so much in denial that it is almost hard to comprehend. It`s almost offensive that she would say something like that.

JEAN CASAREZ, ANCHOR, COURT TV: Sure, or allegedly how drunk she was at the moment. You know if you really look at the legalese of this situation, that these young men were in a car, never dreaming she would get behind the wheel, she wouldn`t let them out, and she kept driving. That amounts to allegedly kidnapping.

Now, these young men, are they trying to make the most of a story right now, that is in the public eye? Are they looking at a civil suit themselves? Or do they really believe they were held against their will during that driving? That`s what the police department, the district attorney`s office is now looking at because, remember, this situation, we don`t have any formal charges yet. We just have an arrest by the police department on misdemeanor DUI.

ANDERSON: Right. And they said that they were terrified through the entire situation.

I spoke with Martin Sheen yesterday, his son Charlie Sheen, as we know, fought a very public battle with drugs and alcohol. Martin helped him get clean and I asked him what Lindsey needs to do to get back on track.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MARTIN SHEEN, ACTOR: The problem with so many young people who almost make it overnight is that they are surrounded by, unfortunately, a lot of sycophants, a lot of yes people who live off them like the queen bee. And you have to fight to get through these sycophants, get through these cloisters around them. And scatter them.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Howard, seems to me martin has got it right. Time to clean house, what do you think? We know she`s got maids.

BRAGMAN: It`s about personal responsibility. No matter how many bad people are around you, you have to take personal responsibility. I`m sorry.

But I do have some news to break for you. I heard this week that her publicist did resign and was a very hard decision because she didn`t want to be perceived as abandoning her. At the same time she didn`t want to be enabling her. And I respect her for that decision. I would have done the same thing.

ANDERSON: Wow. I`m sure it was a difficult situation to be in. All right, guys, stay right where because you are because we want to get fired up about Nicole Richie. Do we think just a few days jail will make a difference? And is she really pregnant? That`s next. Also this --

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GARCELLE BEAUVAIS-NILON: We had our difficulties. I mean we shut down for three weeks. And there were days where we couldn`t shoot, you know, because she wasn`t there.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: That`s Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, she worked right alongside Lindsey Lohan on her new film "I Know Who Killed Me". Coming up next Garcelle spills secrets of what Lindsey was really like when the camera stopped rolling. I want to know did she show up on time? Did she take her job seriously, next?

Also, the lovely and talented Catherine Zeta-Jones, you know she`s been married to Michael Douglas for a while now. So what`s their secret to making it work? You`re gonna be really surprised at how simple it is. Coming up.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson.

Nicole Richie, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to four days in jail. Our SHOWBIZ report, "Crime and Punishment" continues now with our passionate coast-to-coast panel.

All right guys, Nicole sentenced just one month after her best friend and "Simple Life" co-star Paris Hilton got out of jail for violating probation stemming from her one and only DUI arrest. Paris served 23 days. Yet this is Nicole`s second DUI conviction, and she only gets four days. Judge Glenda Hatchett of the "Judge Hatchett" show, help us understand that.

HATCHETT: Well, different judges. In this particular situation, it does seem that she gets a lighter sentence for -- particularly, after she`s been in trouble before. But the statute is very interesting. It says you can serve four days in jail as long as there is a mandatory three-year probationary period.

And I`ll tell you, Brooke, that`s going to be what is going make her or break her. Because I tell you, if she violates the probation, she is going to be in jail, and she is going to serve every single day of that year sentence. And that`s going to be the test. Can she go for three years on probation and not have any other problems?

ANDERSON: Yeah, the judge made it very clear today she would be slapped with a year behind bars.

HATCHETT: Right, no question.

ANDERON: Jean Casarez of Court TV, we know she`s not going to get out early for good behavior, or anything. She has until late September to do these four days. I was surprised she didn`t go right to jail after leaving court. I mean, what is the point in waiting to do this? Just get it over with.

CESAREZ: She may be preparing. She may go in this weekend. You know, another interesting distinction between Paris and Nicole, Paris was sentenced to 12 hours of an alcohol education course. Nicole Richie, according to the Associated Press, has been sentenced to 21 days of an alcohol education course. So this judge today, the commissioner, he`s focused on education of alcohol awareness and that probationary period. Not the actual time in jail.

ANDERSON: Right. OK.

And Howard Bragman, of Fifteen Minutes PR, you`re the image guy. Paris spilled her heart out to our own "Larry King Live" and next week Nicole does the same with ABC`s Diane Sawyer. What does she need to say, how does she need to act?

BRAGMAN: This is where you really have to walk the tight rope. She`s got to sit down with her people and be tremendously well prepared. At the same time she has got to sound spontaneous. That`s the real secret to it. She`s got to be smart. You got to go into an interview knowing your messages.

She`s got to tell stories. One of the things that Paris didn`t do well was really tell stories or give longer answers.

(LAUGHTER)

She would give one or two word answers.

(LAUGHTER)

What are you laughing about?

ANDERSON: Paris didn`t do much of anything during that interview as far as I`m concerned. And I want to bring this up because one of the big mysteries still remaining, although it is the worst kept secret in Hollywood is whether Nicole is actually pregnant.

Pat, do you think there will be a sympathy factor from the public, maybe, for Nicole if she`s having a baby?

LALAMA: Yes, that`s the reason why she got pregnant, I`ll whack her little behind. I`m so upset about this sort of thing. I can`t stand the thought -- I know, I`m going to get e-mails, people calling me a fascist. Just the idea of a young child -- to me, Nicole is a child. These people giving birth in Hollywood, Britney, the rest of them, I know it is not my right whether to say they should or shouldn`t but my heart and morals tell me they`re not prepared.

And you want to know something? Howard makes a good point when he says personal responsibility, and I so believe in personal responsibility. But look what the lifestyle is. First of all, in the case of, let`s say, Lindsey, she`s born with the gene, you know which gene I mean, the one that makes her want to get loaded. All right, she has too much fame, too fast, too much money too fast. And a bunch of yes people.

By God, we have got to look at the whole realm, the whole frenzy of what is bringing these people down. And add to that a society that gives people, you know, kudos for getting in trouble. Somebody has got to stop this somewhere.

ANDERSON: Yeah. And living these lives --

LALAMA: Taking drugs, that`s an even bigger problem with her being pregnant. I hope she`s not pregnant because given the fact she is doing drugs, that`s really a complicated situation. I hope she isn`t.

ANDERSON: Absolutely.

And living lives of excess, you wonder bringing children into their lives, oh, it is so worrisome. We keep saying, all of these party girls, Nicole, Paris, Britney, I could go on and on, getting into the same trouble over and over again. When are they going to learn?

Predictions, do you believe that Nicole`s troubles are going to be over after this? Judge Hatchett?

HATCHETT: Actually, I`m putting my money on Nicole. I think that out of the three of them, Nicole is the one who is more likely to get it together. I really think she is probably going to go get the treatment, she`s going dig in. I she`s going to have the support of her family. And I think she`s going to be okay after this three-year period. I really do.

ANDERSON: Let`s hope so. Jean, quickly.

CASAREZ: You know you have to applaud judges because they`re trying to change the girls by the probation, if they violate, they go back in for quite a while.

ANDERSON: All right. We`re going have to end it there. Thank you, all, for being here, Judge Hatchett, Howard Bragman, Pat Lalama and Jean Casarez, thank you so much and have a great weekend.

BRAGMAN: OK.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Bye-bye.

ANDERSON: OK. Now a revealing look at what it is like to work with Lindsey Lohan. Actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon co-stars with Lindsey in the new movie opening today "I Know Who Killed Me."

Now you might remember the trouble Lindsey caused during the filming of "Georgia Rule" -- where a studio executive publicly slammed her for not showing up to the set, which really disrupted filming. Well, I recently spoke with Beauvais-Nilon, who told me things weren`t all that different when she was on set with Lohan. I also wanted to know did she feel sorry for her?

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BEAUVAIS-NILON: I`m really sad for her but I also think that at a certain point you got to take responsibility. And I think also her parents should be definitely there for her. And I think she`s a little girl lost. I really do.

ANDERSON: Just 21 years old. As we know, Garcelle, this is really just the latest in a long series of problems that she has had, including really being harshly reprimanded, slapped down by the head of a movie studio for her behavior during the filming of "Georgia Rule".

When you shot this film with her, were there similar problems? Was she late? Did she not just show up, or was she on time, ready to go every day like she should be?

BEAUVAIS-NILON: I wish I could say yes to the latter part of that. No, we had our difficulties we shut down for three weeks. And there were days where we couldn`t shoot, you know, because she wasn`t there.

I think it is just been a snowballing effect. And until you grab it at a certain point, it is going to keep going. So hopefully this is a wakeup call for everybody around her. And just young kids, in general, you know, you can`t be completely irresponsible. Especially when you`re working on a production that is millions and millions of dollars worth of money that people are investing.

And, well, you know it hard work. We have all sort of collaborated to make this one project really the best we can. And it is unfortunate that it won`t get the type of good publicity that we would have liked, you know, as artists.

ANDERSON: Sure, and on her last film, I know on the set, Jane Fonda even had to say something to her like shape up. We`re all waiting on you. And we are all here to work. And I`m sure it inconvenienced everyone when you had to shut down production. What were people saying? I imagine that people had to be ticked off.

BEAUVAIS-NILON: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, it was really hard and I have to say the producers were great because they kept their cool throughout. Which was amazing, because you would think -- you know what they`re going through and how much money they`re losing on a daily basis, but I think it is sink or swim now.

ANDERSON: What kind of attitude was she giving off? Was it, you know, I`m struggling, I`m having issues here -- or hang tough, I`m the star.

BEAUVAIS-NILON: No, not at all. When she would come to work, she would be pleasant, likable, sweet. I mean it was really sort of like a different person. I think it is just the chaos around her that she can and can`t control.

ANDERSON: What advice would you give to Lindsey if you were to talk to her now because, bottom line, frustrations aside, she is struggling.

BEAUVAIS-NILON: Yes. Yes. And has a talent that is really just wonderful. I would just say, just have the right people around you. And just stay focused. I`m sure it is hard. I`m sure it is hard when there is everybody just wants to sort of be your yes man, or just hang out with you. It is hard to find somebody that you`re going to be OK with saying no to you.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Great advice from Garcelle. And now Garcelle is also on the cover of the august issue of "Playboy" magazine. I had to ask her, at age 40, with a teenage son and twin boys on the way, why did she take it all off now?

BEAUVAIS-NILON: Yeah, it was actually always something that I wanted to do. But I always thought, you know, when is the good time? Will it hurt my career? What should I do? So, for the longest time I sort of put the idea to rest.

And then this past year I thought, you know what, why not? I felt good in my skin. I felt like career wise things are going well and happily married, thank god. And I thought why not? So why not?

ANDERSON: That issue of "Playboy" is on news stands now.

OK, so Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have been married about seven years. That`s an eternity in Hollywood. So there`s got to be some big secret to making it work, right? Well, I get Catherine to reveal just how they do it. You`re going to be stunned by how simple a secret it is.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, a very lovely and talented person, and she`s opening up to me. I`ve got that, next. Stay with us SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for a Friday night, headed right back.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Now, "Making It Work", SHOWBIZ TONIGHT continuing look at star couples making their relationships work in Hollywood and beyond.

Tonight, one of the best-known, best-looking and most-watched couples out there -- Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. They`ve been married about seven years. Which might as well be 50 in Hollywood -- and they have a couple of kids. So when Catherine stopped by to chat about her new film, "No Reservations," I just had to ask what`s the secret to a successful relationship?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, ACTRESS: We`re kind to each other. Especially in this business, you spend so much time being nice to strangers. We meet so many people, whether it be fans, or on the street, or you go to a set, there is a whole bunch of people you never met before. And me, personally, I was brought up to be nice and gracious and kind to people.

And sometimes we forget that the people that we love and are the closest to us, we sometimes just take that for granted. So we never take each other for granted and we`re kind and nice and respectful to each other, and we have fun.

ANDERSON: A really good philosophy. By the way, "No Reservations" is in theaters now. Catherine stars as a chef, who ends up having to take care of her niece, "Little Miss Sunshine`s" Abigail Breslin. Aaron Eckhart is the guy Catherine ends up liking.

I`m going to have the rest of my interview with Catherine Zeta-Jones on Monday, including what she really thinks about Hollywood`s obsession with beauty and weight.

Yesterday we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. It was this: Lindsey Lohan will she beat the rap? 22 percent of you say yes. she will; that means 78 percent of you say no, she won`t beat the rap.

Here are some of the e-mails we received.

Laurie from Wisconsin says, "If she`s claiming she`s innocent, even after being busted with cocaine on her, she is in some serious trouble."

And Carlos doesn`t think she`ll get out of this, "The cocaine isn`t mine, yeah, right, Lindsey. That excuse tops the classic, `The dog ate my homework`."

OK, time to see now what`s coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT this weekend: "Female Stars Behind Bars". Why are so many Hollywood women trading in designer dresses for, prison stripes? Yeah, it is not just Paris. Some big names have gotten big trouble.

Also this weekend, Joey Buttafuoco spent time behind bars himself. He was the guy who in 1992 dated teenager Amy Fisher, she then shot his wife. Well, Joey`s bounced back. He`s beaten a drug addiction and has some exclusive advice for Lindsey Lohan.

All this, and more, on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT this weekend check it out.

That`s it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thanks so much for watching. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. "Glenn Beck" is coming up next. Right after the latest headlines from CNN "Headline News."
