Lake View/Wrigleyville

The community north of Lincoln Park, is called Lake View or Wrigleyville -- a neighborhood nickname coined after the famous ballpark.

Beginning at the busy intersection of Clark and Diversey, Lincoln Park's luxury apartments and pricey boutiques give way to wood-frame houses and second-hand clothing stores.

Century Mall

Century Mall, at 2828 N. Clark, is the urban version of the suburban phenomenon. The six-story mall was originally a 1930s movie palace. The grand facade and deco sign out front represent earlier times in building design.

A block north, look for a faux-castle structure that was once a 1940's dinner theater. It's now home to the Ivanhoe Theater, where audiences are still entertained but not fed.

You can enjoy great vegetarian food and local theater at Cafe Voltaire, at 3231 N. Clark. Nachos buried under fresh vegetables are a hit. The basement houses an underground theater.

You'll find great reading in various languages next door at Europa Books. The skills you pick up could help you as you continue your journey along Clark....
