An escape from the hectic pace of daily life was in order for Adriene Schrotter, a senior multimedia designer at CNN Interactive, and her friend Patrick. Both wanted to get away from it all, to an unspoiled place. Alaska's wilderness beckoned. Though they didn't have much experience at backpacking, the pair decided to forgo the comfort of hotels and camp in the state's untamed wilderness.
