Search expands for Air Force pilot, jet![]()
April 6, 1997 DAVIS-MONTHAN AFB, Arizona (CNN) -- The search for a missing Air Force pilot and his bomb-laden attack jet has expanded to an area about 200 miles (360 km) southwest of Denver, after new radar information revealed that the plane was last tracked in the region. The radar information indicates that Capt. Craig David Button was heading northeast instead of to a training exercise southwest of Tucson, Arizona, when he disappeared in the $8.8 million A-10 Thunderbolt. Officials have been searching for him and the plane since Wednesday, but bad weather has hampered much of the investigation. The new search was launched near Telluride, Colorado. It was not immediately clear if Button ejected from the plane. ![]() Related sites:Note: Pages will open in a new browser windowExternal sites are not endorsed by CNN Interactive. ![]()
