SPRINGFIELD, Oregon (CNN) -- A male student armed with a rifle and handgun was taken into custody on Thursday after shots were fired in an Oregon high school cafeteria, officials said. At least one person was reported killed and up to 25 others were wounded in the attack, which occurred about 8 a.m. Four of the wounded were described as having life-threatening injuries.

It was not immediately known if the shooting victims were students or teachers at Thurston High School in Springfield, which has about 1,700 students.

There was an unconfirmed report that the shooter was a student who was expelled from the school on Wednesday.
