ATLANTA (CNN) -- A St. Louis engineer laid claim Thursday to the world record for keeping a paper airplane aloft.

On his fourth attempt, Ken Blackburn sailed his paper plane for 27.6 seconds through the cavernous confines of Atlanta's Georgia Dome. The previous record was 20.9 seconds, set by two men in England.

Two timekeepers were on hand to authenticate Blackburn's effort.
