FBI plans to add Osama bin Laden and James Kopp to 'Most Wanted' list
June 4, 1999 From Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The FBI plans to place suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden, wanted in connection with the U.S. embassy bombings, and James Kopp, recently charged in the murder of an abortion provider, on its "Ten Most Wanted" list, CNN has learned. The announcement is expected to be made on Monday. The move had been expected for weeks, as the FBI tries to boost public awareness in its efforts to track down the two elusive murder suspects. Bin Laden, son of a Saudi billionaire, is accused of being the mastermind behind the two almost simultaneous embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania that left more than 200 dead last August. The U.S. government has already offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture. Bin Laden is thought to be in exile in Afghanistan. Kopp is charged in the October 23, 1998 slaying of Dr. Barnett Slepian, who was killed by a sniper's bullet as he stood in the kitchen of his suburban Buffalo, New York, home. Some agents theorize Kopp might have fled to Mexico or Canada. RELATED STORIES: Ex-U.S. Army sergeant arraigned on bombing charges RELATED SITES: FBI Home Page
