Armenians head to polls for presidential election
YEREVAN, Armenia (CNN) -- Armenians headed to the voting
booth Sunday in an election that pits President Levon
Ter-Petrosyan against former prime minister Vazgen Manukyan
for a new five-year term.
The 2.4 million electorate in the mountainous Caucasus state
between Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey had
until 10 p.m.(1800 GMT) to cast ballots.
Ter-Petrosyan has led the country through the last five years
of economic hardship and independence.
