MOSCOW (CNN) -- More than 80,000 workers at 60 coal mines
remain on strike for months of back pay, even though union
leaders and most miners agreed to end a nationwide walkout
last week, Russia's Interfax news agency reported Monday.
The coal miners' strike began December 3 and at its height
idled more than half of Russia's coal mines. Union leaders
agreed to end the strike last Wednesday, and most miners have
since gone back to work on the strength of a government
promise to provide the money for back wages.
But the remaining strikers say they will not return until
they receive their paychecks, Interfax reported.
